After years of anticipation, official announcements, and meetings that excited millions of fans, the Los Simuladores movie will not see the light of day. The confirmation came from Federico D’Elía, who played Mario Santos in the iconic series created by Damián Szifron, and the news quickly went viral.
"I don't mind the question, but I do mind that I'm the one who has to give the answer," said the actor in an interview with Jey Mammon, visibly uncomfortable about having to communicate what many feared: the project was canceled, even though the cast had already signed the corresponding contracts.
D’Elía was blunt: the responsibility doesn't lie with the cast or the director, but with the company that acquired the rights to the project, in this case, Paramount. "Paramount should give the answer because they know why not and why yes. We signed a contract, we were waiting to make it, and suddenly it fell through," he explained.
The actor, currently starring in the play El jefe del jefe, revealed that the group had already passed key stages of pre-production, and that everything was ready to begin. However, filming never started.
"I think it has to do with financial matters, with the restructuring of companies that has taken place on the platforms. But we were very advanced in order to make it," he added.
Although there was no official statement from Paramount, the cancellation is part of a global context of cutbacks, mergers, and restructurings within major streaming platforms, which have affected multiple projects in different countries.
In this case, Los Simuladores: The Movie had been announced with great fanfare in 2022, with a release scheduled for 2024. Damián Szifron had even confirmed that he would once again direct the quartet composed of D’Elía, Diego Peretti, Alejandro Fiore, and Martín Seefeld, who even attended the premiere of Misántropo, the director's latest film, together.

When asked whether the contract is still in force, D’Elía was candid: "Yes, and we're in that mess, trying to see how we can get out of it. It's strange, because it wasn't made."
That statement suggested that the actors are still legally bound to the project, even though it no longer has a confirmed date or destination. The uncertainty also affects Szifron, who had resumed contact with the cast after the international success of his productions.
