During the early hours of Sunday, a 14-year-old teenager, Melody, was shot in the head and killed while attending a clandestine party in the Villa La Iapi neighborhood in Quilmes.
The event took place in a private residence where, according to neighbors' reports, illegal parties were regularly organized and entry was granted upon payment of a 500-peso (1.1 pounds) fee. At these gatherings, alcoholic beverages were sold to minors and there were no responsible adults present. What began as a fight between two teenagers escalated into a general altercation and ended in a shootout.

Witnesses stated that the situation became completely out of control and panic broke out among the attendees. Amid the chaos, Melody was shot in the head, which caused her almost instantaneous death. Some of those present called 911 and officers from the Quilmes Patrol Command arrived along with a SAME ambulance that transported the young woman to Hospital Iriarte. The doctors confirmed her death despite attempts to revive her.
The incident was classified as homicide and is under investigation by the Seventh Police Station of Quilmes and the Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Prosecutor's Office. Cell phones belonging to several witnesses were seized and messages, audio recordings, and videos shared on social media are being analyzed to reconstruct the sequence of events. Public and private security cameras in the area are also being reviewed to detect the movements of participants before and after the crime.
In recent hours, the police arrested a 17-year-old teenager identified as A.S., who is suspected of having fired the shot. Forensic tests detected traces of gunpowder on his hands, which reinforces the hypothesis of his direct involvement. In addition, a second suspect is being sought, an 18-year-old known as "Capucha", who remains at large.

According to the victim's family, numerous people witnessed the murder but many refuse to testify out of fear of reprisals. Investigators are trying to ensure the protection of witnesses and maintain the confidentiality of the identities of the minors involved. One of Melody's grandmothers blamed the owner of the residence where the party was held and demanded that she "pay for allowing something like this."
Melody's murder reignites the debate over the proliferation of clandestine parties in Greater Buenos Aires, where minors have free access to alcohol and weapons without any form of control. The tragedy once again exposes the lack of responsibility on the part of organizers and the absence of municipal authorities in preventing these types of events that end in violence and death.
