Those responsible are reported for illegal burning that caused a stench in neighborhoods of Córdoba
The property did not have permits to process waste and will have to cover the cleanup costs after the municipal operation
Córdoba Municipality filed a criminal complaint against those responsible for a property where illegal waste burning took place. The land, located in the northern area of the city, was identified as the source of the strong nauseating odor perceived in several neighborhoods. Local authorities indicated that the burning was carried out without authorization and that the case constitutes serious environmental damage to the capital.
The complaint was filed with the District Three, Seventh Shift Prosecutor's Office, headed by Raúl Garzón. This judicial action adds to another complaint filed in June for similar situations recorded on other private lots. The investigation aims to sanction those responsible and strengthen controls to prevent new episodes of contamination.
Slowly combusting waste was found beneath the surface at the site, which caused a constant emission of smoke containing sulfur compounds. Air samples confirmed the presence of substances such as dimethyl disulfide and dimethyl trisulfide, both with strong odor activity. The municipality emphasized that this type of burning is illegal and generates a negative impact that goes beyond the affected area.

Environmental controls reinforced after operation in northern Córdoba
Studies by local universities indicated that the soil on the property did not exceed the maximum limits established by the Hazardous Waste Law. Nevertheless, they recommended continued monitoring and planning remediation work to prevent future contaminant emissions. The municipality announced that it will impose fines and require the property owners to cover the costs of cleaning and the operation carried out.
By order of the prosecutor, the Special Fire Unit (DUAR), police personnel, and Urban Hygiene teams intervened. The tasks included extinguishing smoke sources, removing waste, and ensuring that no new illegal deposits are made. Neighbors who suffered the stench for days compared the smell to that of boiled cauliflower, demanding exemplary sanctions.
This incident adds to a series of neighborhood complaints that began earlier in the week. Thanks to the joint operation, the source of the odor was located and action was taken quickly to contain it. The municipality emphasized that controls and patrols will be reinforced to protect the environment and public health in the city.
