African football is once again in mourning. Cheikh Touré, a young Senegalese goalkeeper, was found dead this Saturday in Ghana as part of an investigation targeting a human trafficking network. The news was confirmed by the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Nationals Abroad, which announced a thorough investigation to clarify the causes of death.
According to information released by the Embassy of Senegal in Accra, the player's body was transferred to the Ebenezer morgue in Tafo, located in the Ashanti region, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) from the Ghanaian capital.
Initial investigations indicate that Touré may have been the victim of a scam linked to an alleged sports recruitment. The young footballer was deceived by a group of people who promised him a trial to join a professional club in Ghana, but he ended up being kidnapped and subsequently murdered.
