Trial for Maradona's Death: Mario Schiter Reveals Unpublished Details
Diego Maradona's former doctor provided his testimony in the trial following the tragic death of the soccer star
This April 8, Mario Schiter, former doctor of Diego Maradona, appeared before the San Isidro Court in the trial for the death of the Argentine idol. The doctor, who accompanied the footballer since the 1990s, played a key role in Maradona's health during his most challenging moments, and his words could have great relevance in the legal process.
In an interview with DDM (América), Schiter expressed that it was an honor to have been by Maradona's side for so many years. "Being with him without any kind of objective, just assisting him, was an honor," the doctor stated. He also revealed that, in 2000, when Maradona was going through severe heart failure, he was the only one willing to transfer him, despite how risky it seemed.
"I kept my truth silent"
Over the years, Schiter kept silent about certain details, but he assured that he always acted with the best intention and professionalism. "I kept my truth silent for 25 years," he confessed, referring to the difficult decisions he had to make regarding Maradona's treatment.

A different approach to his treatment
The former doctor explained that, in his opinion, Maradona should have been transferred to a third-level rehabilitation center, instead of remaining in a high-complexity clinic. "The patient no longer needed active hospitalization," Schiter pointed out. In his testimony, he also clarified that in the Olivos clinic, where Maradona was hospitalized, a neurosurgery was attended to, but this was not the only health issue the footballer was suffering from.
According to Schiter, a specialized third-level rehabilitation center had the necessary resources to offer more appropriate care for Maradona's needs. "A patient in a third level has more specialized tools that surely would have provided a much better management of his situation," he stated.
The trial, which began on March 11 at the San Isidro Courts, continues with the analysis of key testimonies, such as that of Mario Schiter, who, with his medical perspective, provides valuable elements to clarify the circumstances surrounding the footballer's death.
