Trump's administration confirmed progress in the visa agreement with Argentina

The United States Department of Homeland Security denied a report published by Axios

The Donald Trump administration, through the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), issued an official statement on Wednesday in which it categorically denied a report published by the portal Axios.

In that report, it was falsely claimed that there was a so-called "shameful" halt in the progress of the agreement for Argentina, under the administration of Javier Milei, to join the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), the system that allows citizens of certain countries to enter U.S. territory without a visa for up to 90 days.

"What is truly 'shameful' is that Axios considers this journalism. As we told you, there was no new or additional document related to the visa waiver program pending signature with Argentina. DHS looks forward to working with Argentine officials in the future," the Department stated in its release, published on the social network X.

This way, President Donald Trump's administration denied the speculation that had arisen hours earlier, when Axios had claimed that an Argentine delegation had been caught by surprise in Miami with the news that the signing of the agreement had been suspended.

DHS emphasized that the evaluation process for Argentina's reentry into the Visa Waiver Program is proceeding as normal and that bilateral contacts regarding customs and security cooperation remain unchanged.

The response from the Department of Homeland Security also seeks to send a message of confidence to the administration of Javier Milei, which had made the return of Argentina to this migration benefit one of its foreign policy priorities, after the country was excluded in 2002. Since then, every Argentine citizen traveling to the United States must apply for a visa, with the associated cost and delay.

The official clarification adds to what was stated earlier by the Argentine Foreign Ministry and the Embassy in Washington, which had denied any kind of halt in the process and highlighted that technical discussions continue to progress as planned.

With this statement, DHS not only refutes Axios, but also reaffirms progress in the visa waiver program, in line with the commitments made in July by the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, and the Javier Milei administration.
