The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced in Miami a new geopolitical initiative aimed at strengthening regional cooperation against narco-terrorism and the offensive of the Chinese regime in the hemisphere.
The project, called “Shield of the Americas”, brought together twelve leaders from the region, including Argentine President Javier Milei.
The opening meeting was held at the Trump National Doral Miami hotel, which since the night before was surrounded by strict security and special operational measures. Invited heads of state and key members of the U.S. administration gathered there to formally launch the initiative

During the beginning of the meeting, Trump highlighted the presence of Latin American leaders and recalled the political link he maintains with several of them. In his opening speech, he highlighted the support he provided to some of the leaders present in their respective campaigns

“I want to thank the members of the coalition, most of whom are friends of mine. Some of them I just met, but most of them are friends, many of whom I supported. They took that support and won big,” he said

the leaders individually approached Trump before starting the working session. After that initial moment, the American president presented to the participants the guidelines of his regional strategy, which includes closer coordination in the area of security and defense

In his speech, Trump also recalled military actions carried out during his first administration and highlighted the operational capacity of the US armed forces in the face of international threats, particularly in relation to Iran.
The president stated that these actions had a global impact and valued the results obtained by the US military forces. According to his assessment, the effect of these operations was extraordinary, to the point of describing it as “fifteen on a scale of ten”.
One of the central announcements of the meeting was the creation of the Anti-Cartel Coalition of the Americas, a military alliance aimed at confronting criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking in the continent. The US president noted that, as a result of recent operations, drug trafficking by sea has fallen by 96%. In that context, he stressed the importance of using all available resources, including lethal force, to destroy criminal structures that also operate in connection with
terrorist networks.
Trump thanked seventeen countries for participating in the regional cooperation scheme and stressed the need to work together to identify those responsible for criminal organizations.
In addition to Milei, the group includes presidents such as Nayib Bukele from El Salvador, Luis Abinader from the Dominican Republic, Daniel Noboa from Ecuador and Santiago Peña from Paraguay, along with other leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The North American president described the creation of the Shield of the Americas as a historic moment and affirmed that cooperation between participating countries will be key to confronting common threats and strengthening hemispheric security.
