The news was confirmed by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt at a press conference this Thursday

At a press conference held this Thursday, the White House warned that it will use all methods at its disposal to stop the drug trafficking that reaches the United States as a consequence of the criminal organization led by dictator Nicolás Maduro.

The spokesperson for the U.S. presidency, Karoline Leavitt, stated that she would not answer questions on behalf of President Donald Trump regarding possible military action against Latin American drug cartels, although she assured that "many countries in the Caribbean and the region have applauded this administration's anti-drug operations and efforts".

Leavitt maintained that Trump "is willing to use all American power to stop the arrival of drugs in our country and bring those responsible to justice" and that Maduro's regime "is not the legitimate government of Venezuela."

Trump's priority is to end drug trafficking.

U.S. authorities have identified the Venezuelan dictator as the leader of the Cartel of the Suns. This criminal organization, in turn, operates as the armed wing and main financier of the narco-chavista regime, in addition to having connections with other groups such as Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.

These criminal groups have flooded the United States with drugs that are transported across the border. In this regard, Trump has already suggested using the armed forces to combat drug cartels in Mexico.

Last week, the U.S. announced that it would deploy three guided missile destroyers from the Navy and more than 4,000 soldiers in the southern Caribbean and nearby waters to combat illicit activities in that region. The USS Newport News, a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, will join that naval fleet.

Maduro and 14 other people in his circle were indicted in 2020 for narcoterrorism and conspiracy to import cocaine by the U.S. justice system. Since then, and under Trump's administration, the reward for their capture has increased to 50 million dollars, a figure that makes him the most wanted fugitive.
