In a display of firmness that characterizes the foreign policy of the current administration, the government of the United States has dealt a strategic blow to the financial structures of the Cuban dictatorship. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on May 21, 2026, the arrest and prosecution of Adys Lastres Morera, a key figure due to her blood and operational ties with the economic arm of the Cuban Armed Forces.
This operation, executed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), responds to President Donald Trump's determination not to allow individuals linked to hostile regimes to use American soil as a refuge or base of operations.

Adys Lastres Morera is the sister of the executive president of GAESA, the opaque military conglomerate that, according to official figures, corruptly controls 70% of the economy on the island, including strategic sectors such as hotels, ports, commerce, real estate companies, and financial operations.
Under the protection of her legal status, the detainee “managed real estate” in Florida while simultaneously collaborating with the repressive state apparatus of Havana. In light of this betrayal of national trust, Secretary Marco Rubio issued a formal deportability determination, causing the woman to lose her permanent residency immediately.
The administration's firmness was underscored in the statements of Marco Rubio, who through the social network X sent a lethal warning to the enemies of freedom: “There will be no place on this planet, and much less in our country, where foreign citizens who threaten our national security can live in luxury”.
