Major blow to Islamist terrorism: the 'Muslim Brotherhood' will be classified as a terrorist organization

President Donald J. Trump signed a decisive executive order on Monday instructing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to activate the legal procedure to classify chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) and as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).

The White House stated it bluntly: "President Trump is confronting the transnational network of the Muslim Brotherhood, which fuels terrorism and destabilization campaigns against the interests and allies of the United States."
The document orders the preparation of a report on chapters in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan, among others. It then demands concrete actions within a maximum period of 45 days to move forward with the designations.

Neutralizing networks and cutting off funding
The president's objective is clear: to disable the operational capabilities of the specified chapters, cut off funding, and protect national security.
According to the official fact sheet:
In Lebanon, the military wing of the Muslim Brotherhood chapter assisted terrorist groups in launching rocket attacks against civilian and military targets inside Israel after October 7.
In Egypt, a senior leader encouraged violent attacks against United States partners on the same day as the Hamas attack.
In Jordan, Brotherhood leaders have provided material support to Hamas's militant branch.
Trump reinforced this in his previous interview with Just the News: "The final documents are being drafted. It will be done in the strongest and most powerful terms."

From the operational wing of the White House, officials emphasize that the order is a tool to eliminate resources, dismantle structures, and close operational spaces of chapters linked to extremism.
Netanyahu welcomes the decision
The measure was met with immediate support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated: "The Muslim Brotherhood is an organization that endangers stability throughout the Middle East and beyond."
Israel recalled that it has already banned parts of the movement and that it is "working to complete that action."
A major shift in counterterrorism strategy
The move against the Muslim Brotherhood is part of a broader policy that Trump has strengthened since his return to government.
Trump declaró Organización Terrorista Extranjera a la muslim brotherhood
So far this year:
He moved forward to designate Ansar Allah (the Houthis) as an FTO.
He declared eight criminal cartels, including Tren de Aragua, as FTOs and SDGTs.
He deported hundreds of members of terrorist organizations.
He promoted migration restrictions for countries with a history of extremism.
He ordered lethal strikes against narco-terrorists.
Experts from ISGAP, a center that closely monitors the advance of Islamist networks, pointed out that the Brotherhood "has learned to exploit the freedoms of open societies to weaken them from within" and that it functions as "an intellectual incubator of jihadism."
A clear message from Washington
The executive order places the Muslim Brotherhood under the strictest surveillance of the United States security apparatus.
It opens an institutional path leading to terrorist classification and the total cutoff of funding, logistical networks, and political support.
The message is unequivocal: The United States will not tolerate transnational Islamist organizations operating, funding, or inspiring violence under the guise of moderate political structures.
