The president communicated his intention to retake the military base this week and threatened the Afghan leadership if an agreement is not reached

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is trying to regain control of Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, a valuable and strategic military asset that former President Joe Biden handed over to terrorists during his disastrous withdrawal from the country in 2021.
To do so, the American leader and his team have sought to return to dialogue with the Taliban, the terrorist organization that has controlled the South-Central Asian country since the withdrawal of American troops. Today, on his Truth Social platform, Trump issued a warning to its members.
"If Afghanistan doesn't return Bagram Air Base to those who built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN," the president stated, referring to what was the largest American military site in the country, which is also an important regional stronghold due to its proximity to China.

Regaining Bagram to confront China
The scoop about regaining the base was given by Trump himself during his visit to the United Kingdom this week. "We're trying to get it back because they need things from us. We want that base back. But one of the reasons we want the base is, as you know, it's an hour away from where China manufactures its nuclear weapons."
In February, in his first cabinet meeting after his return to the White House, the Republican leader commented that in the withdrawal plan he was negotiating with the Taliban before Biden took power illegally and ruined the agreement, the American military was going to remain in Bagram for the sole reason of the Chinese threat.
Bagram was one of the largest air bases in the world, whose structure is capable of serving bombers and large cargo planes. Trump said at that time that the Asian giant was now occupying the airfield, a claim rejected by the Afghan leadership, who are seeking to normalize their ties with the US.
The withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan ordered by Biden in 2021 is considered one of the greatest military failures in recent history, having left weapons and other military assets, including the bases, in the hands of the Taliban. It also claimed the lives of 11 Marines in a terrorist attack by ISIS.
