The name of Andrés Iniesta is once again making headlines, although this time far from the playing fields. The world champion with Spain in South Africa 2010 is involved in a lawsuit for alleged fraud in Peru, linked to the operations of his company Never Say Never (NSN).
According to the complaint filed by Gucho Entertainment and a group of Peruvian entrepreneurs, nearly $600,000 was allegedly transferred to NSN with the aim of organizing sportsand music events in Peruvian territory. However, the shows were never held.
NSN habría cobrado 600 mil dólares de eventos que no se realizaron
The situation worsened when NSN Sudamérica declared liquidation in June 2024, less than a year after starting its commercial activities. According to the newspaper Líbero and other local media, the company had scheduled a series of K-pop music shows, a match between Cienciano and El Nacional from Ecuador, and a legends match between Peru legends and Spain legends. Only one of the planned events took place, which was a friendly in Miami between Sporting Cristal and Barcelona from Ecuador in December 2023, which, according to the complainants, resulted in significant financial losses.
The investors state that they decided to provide capital after confirming that the company had the Spanish former midfielder as its public face. "We trusted the project because of Iniesta's presence and his international career," the plaintiffs argued in their court filing.
Amid the media stir, both NSN and Andrés Iniesta released an official statement in which they categorically deny the accusations. "We regret that this information has been published with malicious intent in order to take advantage of the image of a public figure," they stated. The note adds that the former footballer trusts that the Peruvian justice system will clarify the facts "very soon," and reaffirms that neither he nor the company acted irregularly.
Iniesta confía en que la Justicia esclarezca los hechos
The case is currently under investigation by the First Office of the Provincial Corporate Criminal Prosecutor of San Isidro-Lince, which must determine whether there was fraud in the operations of NSN's South American subsidiary. So far, there is no final ruling, although the Prosecutor's Office is expected to make progress in gathering evidence and testimonies in the coming days. If the accusations are confirmed, the episode could become one of the most high-profile legal scandals involving a former player from the elite of Spanish football in recent years.
