The United States commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a national tribute to the victims of terrorism

On a day of profound patriotic significance, the government, the United States commemorates this Friday, September 11, the 25th anniversary of the brutal attacks carried out in 2001 by the Islamic terrorist organization Al Qaeda, which left a painful toll of nearly 3,000 dead. The aggression included the hijacking of 4 commercial airplanes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon (causing 184 fatalities), and an open field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The national commemoration —declared by the Congress as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance— is led by President Donald Trump, who reaffirmed in Washington: “Throughout history, there are some moments that truly divide time into what was before and after”.

Trump, who witnessed the tragedy in his hometown of New York in 2001, leads the events at the Department of War at the Pentagon, proclaiming that the country has “a strength that no fire can consume”, while Vice President JD Vance leads the delegation at the National September 11 Memorial in New York.

As a prior tribute, on the night of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, an impressive installation of 2,977 points of light projected by drones over the port of New York and Governors Island recreated the silhouette of the Twin Towers against Manhattan, according to ABC7 New York. The work began as an ascending helix in reference to the project by the THINK team for the World Cultural Center according to Designboom.

Produced by Sky Elements Drone Shows under the direction of Addison Mehr, designed by Yan Paul Dubbelman, with advice from Studio Drift, Shigeru Ban, and Dean Maltz, and operated by IDEKO, the intervention was funded by the New York Foundation for the Arts and included music by Philip Glass, John Adams (On the Transmigration of Souls), and Max Richter (On the Nature of Daylight). Rescuers and family members participated in the design, including Brenda Berkman, Tim Brown, Terry Strada, Jim Smith, and Genevieve Siller.

At the ceremony in New York, the screens in Times Square will pause their advertisements at 9:11 in the morning and will include for the first time a minute of silence for the victims of toxic dust. Jay Winuk (9/11 Day, brother of the fallen Glenn Winuk) emphasized: “An appropriate way to remember is by serving others”.

Among the testimonies of dedication stands out that of Officer Casey Kloepfer, aged 29, who serves in the same precinct in Brooklyn where his late father Ronald Kloepfer worked, expressing: “It’s a great challenge, but I definitely take it very seriously and want to continue honoring him and be the best police officer I can”.

The communist and Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani, aged 34, also attends the event. Internationally, Emmanuel Macron stated that the event “remains etched in the memory of the world” and Benjamin Netanyahu defined it as “pure evil”, while the highest civilian honor was awarded to the “man in the red bandana”.

Framed in this patriotic remembrance, the conservative movement commemorated this Thursday, September 10, the first anniversary of the vile political assassination of activist Charlie Kirk. The cowardly attack occurred at 12:23 p.m. on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, when a shot fired from 130 meters away from the Losee Center struck his neck during the debate “Prove Me Wrong” with student Hunter Kozak in front of 3,000 people. Following his death at Timpanogos Regional Hospital, Governor Spencer Cox classified the incident as a “political assassination”.

A year later, UVU (48,000 students) canceled classes for the memorial “Freedom Built to Last Memorial” of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at the UCCU Center with Glenn Beck, Frank Turek, and Rector Jon Anderson, amid protests from Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) led by Ethan Cunningham and testimonies like that of student Ruby Olsen, aged 20: “The notoriety of Kirk's assassination is all we are now”.

In Dallas, Texas, the Republican convention paid tribute to his empty chair and President Donald Trump stated: “A leftist extremist killed my great friend, Charlie Kirk, because Charlie Kirk told the truth”.

The accused extremist, Tyler James Robinson, aged 22, arrested on September 12, 2025, faces 7 felony charges and pleaded not guilty on September 1, 2026. Judge Tony Graf (Provo) sent him to trial after reviewing 24 pages of notes, facing the death penalty, life imprisonment without parole, or 25 years to life.

The evidence includes a Mauser .30-06 rifle, a cartridge inscribed with the slogan “Hey Fascist! CATCH!”, text messages saying “I’ve had enough of their hate. There are hates that are non-negotiable”, and a note to Lance Twiggs: “I had the chance to take out Charlie Kirk and I took it”. His widow Erika Kirk stated: “Today’s decision marks an important step in our family’s pursuit of justice...”.

Charlie Kirk, who co-founded TPUSA in 2012 at the age of 18, reaching over 850 universities and visiting the White House 100 times, was described by Susie Wiles as “perhaps the most high-profile MAGA figure... outside of government”. After traveling the country in 2016 with Donald Trump Jr. at the age of 22, he was key for Vice President JD Vance, who acknowledged: “Charlie introduced me to the people who would run my campaign and also to Don Jr.” and “Not only did he help us win in 2024; he helped us put the whole government together”, a gesture appreciated by Trump for his “love for this country”.

Currently, the leadership of TPUSA, under the direction of Tyler Bowyer and with the support of Erika Kirk (who stated in December 2025: “We are going to make my husband’s friend, JD Vance, win in 2028...”), is executing the roadmap to propel JD Vance to the presidency in 2028, covering the 99 counties of Iowa, as well as Arizona, Nevada, and New Hampshire.
