Epic Games and Unity announced an alliance that will mark a turning point in the industry. Starting in 2026, games developed with Unity will be able to be published directly within Fortnite. The announcement was made at the Unite 2025 event held in Barcelona.
The measure represents a deep change in the battle royale ecosystem, which until now has maintained a closed system where experiences could only be created with Epic's official tools. Beginning in 2026, Fortnite will incorporate content caused with external engines for the first time.

An agreement aimed at more open platforms
Epic Games' CEO, Tim Sweeney, explained that the agreement is based on "a truly amazing network technology" developed by Unity. It will make it possible to integrate their games within Fortnite without losing performance or compatibility.
Unity will also add support for Unreal Engine on its cross-platform commerce platform, which will allow Unreal developers to manage catalogs, payment systems, and web stores across multiple devices.
A shared vision for an interoperable ecosystem
Sweeney emphasized that both companies agree on the need to promote open digital platforms. "We believe companies have to work together to build interoperable systems, just like in the early days of the web", he stated.
