English clubs spent 4.120 billion euros during the summer window, far exceeding Italy, Germany, Spain, and France, which together did not reach that figure
The transfer market once again left a snapshot that is becoming more frequent in European football: England plays on another scale. The Premier League closed the window for the 2026-2027 season with a spending of4.120 billion euros, a figure that alone surpassed the combined investment of LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
The difference is not only explained by the big players. Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham made significant moves again, but the economic power also reached lower-budget teams that usually do not occupy the center stage.
An example of this is that 12 of the 20 clubs in the English top tier made the most expensive signing in their history during this market. Aston Villa paid 55 million euros for Ibrahim Mbaye and another 30 for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, while Brighton, Brentford, Leeds, Coventry City, Ipswich, Nottingham Forest, and Hull also surpassed their own records.
The Manchester City was the main exponent of the spending in English football, with 450 million euros invested. The highest signing was Enzo Fernández, for 145 million, followed by Elliot Anderson, for 138, Ayyoub Bouaddi, for 96, and Ilman Ndiaye, for 75.

Below the Citizens is the Arsenal, which allocated 220 million to strengthen the squad. Bruno Guimaraes, for 87 million; Ezri Konsa, for 64; and Christos Tzolis, for 40, led the operations of the last English champion.
Among the particularities of this window is also the internal movement within the Premier itself. Close to 40% of transfers were made between clubs in the league, above the 30% recorded in the previous market. The transfer of Enzo Fernández to City for 145 million, for example, made Chelsea one of the big beneficiaries of this circuit and the Argentine one of the most important operations in the history of English football.
The other leagues light years behind
The rest of the major continental leagues lagged far behind. The Serie A was the second competition with the highest spending, though with only 1.160 billion euros. Milan made its main move by signing Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain for a figure that can reach 74 million between the fixed amount and variables.
A step lower is the Bundesliga. The German competition recorded 781 million in purchases, with Bayern Munich as one of the main investors thanks to the arrivals of Ismail Saibari, for 50 million, and Nathaniel Brown, for 40.
In fourth place is LaLiga from Spain, which reached 755 million euros. The club with the highest spending was the Real Madrid, which disbursed 225 million and made the most expensive signing in its history with Yan Diomandé, for 125 million fixed and up to 140 if certain objectives are met. The Spanish capital team also signed Marc Cucurella (55 million), Carlos Espí (25 million), and Denzel Dumfries (20 million), while Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva arrived as free agents.

Meanwhile, Barcelona ranks second in investments in the competition, with seven signings for over 170 million euros excluding variables. Among them, Rodri Hernández stood out, for whom they paid 60 million fixed to Manchester City, with another 15 possible. Anthony Gordon arrived for 70 million, and Karim Adeyemi for 23 million.
Finally, Ligue 1 in France closed the group of the five major leagues with 605 million euros spent. PSG was one of the main players with 135 million used in signings, with additions like Ferran Torres, for 55 million, Maghnes Akliouche, for 50, and Mika Godts, for 35.
The contrast between England and its main competitors once again highlights an increasingly marked economic difference. The revenue-generating capacity of Premier clubs, largely supported by their broadcast rights, allows the league not only to concentrate several of the most powerful teams on the continent but also to dominate the transfer market decisively.
