An episode as unusual as it is rare took place in Brazil. During the match between Betim and Cruzeiro for the Campeonato Mineiro, goalkeeper Cássio Ramos had to leave the field of play momentarily to go to the bathroom, and the referee decided to stop the match to allow him to go to the locker room.
The situation occurred two minutes into the second half at Arena Urbsan. The experienced 38-year-old goalkeeper approached the referee and told him that he was suffering from severe stomach discomfort, so he requested authorization to go to the bathroom. With the match stopped, Cássio quickly headed toward the visitors' section of the stadium while players from both teams waited on the field.
According to the images shown in the broadcast, a member of Cruzeiro's medical staff handed him some medication before he could enter the bathroom. The interruption lasted for about four minutes and caused surprise among both the protagonists and the fans in the stands, in an unusual scene for an official professional soccer match.
Upon his return, the goalkeeper was greeted with applause, laughter, and relaxed gestures from the fans. Far from creating discomfort, the goalkeeper replied with smiles and knowing gestures before resuming his place between the posts, which helped ease the atmosphere of the match.
Cássio pudo volver y el partido siguió con normalidad
In strictly sporting terms, Cruzeiro ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Matheus Pereira near the end of the match. The result allowed it to remain in contention for a place in the semifinals of the state tournament, in a context of pressure due to the team's inconsistent start and the discontent of part of the fan base, which had been questioning the performance after the heavy defeat against Botafogo at the start of the Brasileirão.
