A United States delegation arrived in Caracas this Friday to analyze a possible reopening of the U.S. embassy
The Venezuelan transitional government reported this Friday that it started a "diplomatic exploratory process" with the objective of resuming relations with the United States, which have remained interrupted since 2019.
The announcement took place in parallel with the official confirmation by the government of Donald Trump of the sending of a diplomatic delegation to Caracas to evaluate a possible reopening of its embassy in the Caribbean country.
The decision was communicated by the Venezuelan foreign minister, Yván Gil, through an official statement in which he indicated that the transitional government headed by Delcy Rodríguez solved to move forward with a formal rapprochement with Washington.

According to the text released, the Venezuelan Executive "has decided to start an exploratory process of a diplomatic nature with the government of the United States of America, aimed at the reestablishment of diplomatic missions in both countries".
The announcement became known almost one week after the special military operation carried out by the United States in Caracas, which resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, within the framework of strong pressure exerted against the Venezuelan regime.
In that context, Caracas also confirmed the arrival of a United States diplomatic delegation and anticipated that it will send its own representation to Washington as part of this initial dialogue process.

From the United States, the State Department ratified the sending of officials to the Venezuelan capital. An official spokesperson explained that "on January 9, United States diplomatic and security personnel from the United States External Office for Venezuela (VAU for its initials in English), including Chargé d'Affaires John T. McNamara, traveled to Caracas to carry out an initial assessment with a view to a possible gradual resumption of operations".
According to the information provided, the mission has an exploratory nature and aims to analyze the conditions for a possible reopening of the United States embassy.
Diplomatic relations between both countries have been suspended since 2019, when Washington and Caracas broke formal ties within the framework of the Venezuelan political crisis. Since that moment, there has been no full diplomatic presence in either of the two capitals.
