WhatsApp Web will finally incorporate support for voice and video calls, a feature that until now was only available in the desktop app. The update is known as Web Calling and will be gradually rolled out to all users.

With this new feature, WhatsApp Web will add a complete call history through a specific tab, as well as features like reactions and screen sharing, all while maintaining end-to-end encryption.

What features does Web Calling bring to WhatsApp

According to Meta's official blog, WhatsApp aims to compete with tools like Google Meet through new options for video calls.

  • Waiting Room: gives the host control over who enters the call and when

  • Call Transfer: allows moving a call between different devices, such as a mobile phone, tablet, WhatsApp Web, and the desktop app

  • Noise Suppression: improves voice clarity in noisy environments and can be activated from the settings during the call

  • QuickHD: offers high-definition video from the first seconds of the call

  • To enable the waiting room, the host must activate the "Require approval to join" option when creating the call link.

When will the WhatsApp Web update arrive

WhatsApp has not confirmed an exact date for the launch of these features. The company stated that they will be gradually enabled for all users.
