Villa Carlos Paz: authorities arrested a passenger with 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of marijuana from Formosa
The Gendarmerie seized 24 packages containing drugs on a bus that departed from Clorinda and arrested the suspect after a routine inspection
A National Gendarmerie operation in the province of Formosa ended with the seizure of a shipment of marijuana. The procedure was carried out on an interprovincial bus that had departed from Clorinda bound for Villa Carlos Paz. In total, the officers seized more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of drugs hidden in suitcases.
The inspection took place on National Route 11, at the height of the town of Lucio V. Mansilla. Personnel from Squadron 15 “Bajo Paraguay” used a scanner to inspect the passengers' luggage. There, they detected suspicious images that led to a more thorough procedure.

The role of the anti-narcotics dog
Faced with the presence of suspicious packages, the gendarmes called in the anti-narcotics dog “Jumbo.” The animal reacted immediately, clearly marking the suitcases indicated by the scanner. This way, it was confirmed that this was a case of drug trafficking.
In the presence of witnesses, the officers opened a suitcase and a backpack that contained 24 packages. The packages were wrapped in transparent nylon bags with a plant substance inside. Chemical tests yielded a positive result for marijuana with a weight of 20 kilograms 195 grams (44 pounds 8 ounces).
The owner of the luggage was identified as an adult man who was traveling on the same bus. Federal Court No. 2 of Formosa ordered his immediate arrest and the seizure of the drugs. Now the judiciary is investigating whether the shipment was destined for Córdoba or if it would be unloaded at another intermediate point.

Drug trafficking on highways
The operation reflects the importance of maintaining firm and permanent controls on the country's road corridors. National highways are used by drug trafficking networks to move large volumes of drugs. In the face of this threat, surveillance of public transportation is a key tool.
In recent months, Córdoba has emerged in several investigations as a significant destination for the distribution of narcotics. Its tourist and urban weight makes it a sought-after market for criminal gangs. For this reason, procedures are reinforced with scanners and trained dogs that provide speed and precision.
This case demonstrates the decisive role of the Gendarmerie in protecting the province and the region. The seizure of more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of marijuana prevented those drugs from reaching the sales circuits. At the same time, it sent a clear message about the need to maintain controls that protect society from the advance of drug trafficking.
