La Malinche, the musical that SEP doesn't want you to see

The musical "Malinche" was created by the Spanish musician Nacho Cano, known for his critical stance toward the government of Pedro Sánchez.

The artist has been the target of intense media and judicial persecution in his country. The play debuts today at Frontón México, after three successful seasons in Madrid.

A questioned interpretation of history

The play advocates for mestizaje and tells the story of La Malinche. Its approach has sparked controversy for contradicting the official narrative about the conquest and its protagonists.

Some historians have criticized this representation for omitting aspects uncomfortable for the official narrative, including indigenous brutality prior to the arrival of the Spaniards. The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has not issued official comments, but close sources reveal discomfort with the play's message.

High-level cast and production

The staging brings together more than 50 actors and live musicians in a top-tier theatrical experience. Nacho Cano, former member of Mecano and creator of the musical "Hoy no me puedo levantar," leads this ambitious project.

The play mixes flamenco, pop, and rock, and seeks to rescue the value of Hispanic culture against the narrative of hate promoted by the cultural left.
