Williams Alarcón underwent emergency surgery and might miss the rest of the Torneo Apertura.
The Chilean midfielder had to leave the field during the first half of the match against Defensa y Justicia due to a torn meniscus in his right knee
Boca achieved its sixth consecutive victory and reached the top of Zone A of the Torneo Apertura after defeating Defensa y Justicia 4-0 at La Bombonera, with two goals from Milton Giménez, as well as goals from Miguel Merentiel and Edinson Cavani, who managed to end his goal drought. However, despite the great result and the good performance of the team led by Fernando Gago, the day left bad news: Williams Alarcón had to leave the field in the first half after suffering a severe discomfort in his right knee.
According to journalist Diego Monroig from ESPN on Monday morning, tests confirmed that the Chilean midfielder suffered a meniscus tear in his right leg. To take advantage of the break for the double FIFA date ahead of the South American Qualifiers commitments, Boca's medical team, led by Dr. Batista, decided to operate on him immediately the day after the injury.
Thus, Alarcón arrived at a clinic in the San Isidro area shortly after 8 in the morning. Accompanied by his partner, the former Huracán player entered on crutches while preparing for the surgical intervention. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and the player will need to rest for a long time.

Alarcón's injury
First of all, it should be clarified that number 15 of Xeneize had been a starter in the match against Halcón de Varela replacing Ander Herrera, who didn't play due to a muscle overload in his left hamstring.
That said, the incident occurred at 24 minutes into the first half. The midfielder had gone to press Aaron Molinas along the line, but when Halcón's number 10 made a pass, the Chilean, in his attempt to turn quickly, got his right knee caught in the grass, immediately letting himself fall. Subsequently, he had to leave the field visibly affected and with tears in his eyes.
After being examined by Xeneize's doctors, the professionals determined that he couldn't continue, so Tomás "Toto" Belmonte entered in his place, who was also recovering from a muscle discomfort.

It is estimated that Alarcón will have a recovery time of approximately two months, which would leave him out of the rest of the Torneo Apertura, possibly returning just in time for the Club World Cup.
For Boca, like the rest of the teams, there are six matches left in the initial phase, with the expectation of the knockout round in which the top eight from each zone will compete toward the final. This stage will begin the second weekend of May and, if Xeneize maintains the lead, it will be able to play the round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals at La Bombonera.
Gago's team's next challenge will be in two weeks, after the break for the FIFA date. On the last weekend of March, Boca will face Newell's at the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa stadium for matchday 11 of the first tournament of the year of the Liga Profesional.
