The new feature of the social network updates the Bookmark button and groups them in a single private location to facilitate later access to saved or consumed content.

X has introduced a new tab called History that combines bookmarks, likes, viewed videos, and read articles in one place for each user. The update aims to turn the platform into a more comprehensive tool for saving and retrieving content.

For now, the feature is available first on the iOS app. X's product lead, Nikitia Bier, explained that it is a more practical way to revisit everything one wants to pick up later.

With this change, the Bookmarks button that was in the left sidebar is now called History. Within this section, the content is divided into four specific tabs: bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles.

This allows easy access to what was intentionally saved and also to what was consumed while browsing the social network.

A private and centralized place

The History section is completely private, visible only to the user. While bookmarks and likes represent voluntary saves, the tabs for videos and articles are automatically populated based on what each person watches or reads on X.

This way, the platform functions a bit more like a web browser, where it is possible to revisit previously viewed content even if it was not explicitly saved. This consolidates tools that were previously scattered: bookmarks in the main menu and likes hidden in the profile.

The novelty could encourage greater use of long-form articles that X has been promoting for creators and companies to share information that goes beyond the usual 280-character limit.

Users will now be able to easily follow articles they find while scrolling, creating a sort of personalized news reader within the same app.

Opportunity for creators and publishers

This launch comes at a time when web publishers are experiencing a decline in traffic referred from other platforms like Facebook and Google. Changes in algorithms and AI-driven experiences have reduced clicks to external sites.

X sees this trend as an opportunity to attract more publishers and creators to publish directly on its platform, where distribution and discovery are already integrated.

With History, users have a simpler way to organize and retrieve all the interesting content that comes through their feed. The feature reinforces X's role as a space not only for consuming information in the moment but also for saving and consulting it later.

The update represents another step in the evolution of the social network towards a multifunctional tool that combines social networking with content organization capabilities. Users can already try it on iOS, and it is expected to roll out to other platforms soon.
