Xbox has confirmed that Perfect Dark and Everwild are being canceled, but it keeps more than 40 titles in active development
Microsoft confirmed that Perfect Dark and Everwild are no longer in development. Both games were bets from Xbox, but after an internal restructuring, they will no longer be part of the future catalog.
Additionally, the permanent closure of The Initiative was announced, the studio created specifically to work on the Perfect Dark reboot.

Xbox ends two of its most anticipated projects
The news became known through an internal email sent by Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios. There, it was confirmed that both Perfect Dark and Everwild are officially canceled.
Both had undergone extensive development. Perfect Dark was announced in 2018 and showed its first gameplay trailer only in 2024, with no defined release date. Everwild, meanwhile, was introduced in 2019, but never managed to make solid progress.
The Initiative, Microsoft studio, is dissolved
As part of this decision, The Initiative was closed, the studio formed specifically to lead the return of Perfect Dark.

According to the statement, other productions that had not yet been revealed to the public were also canceled. This measure is part of a broader restructuring that affects different areas of the company.
Xbox clarifies that its strategy remains firm
Despite the cuts, Booty emphasized that Xbox's strategy remains focused on creating experiences that excite players. He stated that more than 40 games are in active development.

They highlight a solid line-up for the remainder of 2024 and optimistic projections for the coming year.
What will happen to the canceled franchises?
It is not clear whether Perfect Dark or Everwild could be resumed in the future with new teams or formats. For now, they are excluded from Microsoft's plans, with no intention to resume their development.
The case of Everwild, developed by Rare, had already raised doubts for years. In recent times, no new material had been shown, which fueled suspicions of an imminent cancellation.
