Former assembly members Díaz and Muentes transferred to La Roca due to risk to their safety
SNAI ordered the transfer following an intelligence alert; habeas corpus petitions against the measure were denied
The prison authority ordered the transfer of former assembly members Santiago Díaz and Pablo Muentes from Quito's Prison 4 to the maximum-security prison La Roca in Guayaquil. The decision is based on an alert from the National Intelligence Center, which warned that their lives could be in danger in the Quito prison due to the presence of high-risk inmates. Santiago Díaz, former assembly member of Revolución Ciudadana, is being held in pretrial detention for alleged rape of a girl under 12 years old, and was suspended from his duties in the Assembly. Díaz filed a habeas corpus petition alleging a medical condition (previous heart attack), but his request was denied by the Criminal Chamber of the Provincial Court of Guayas, and the transfer was carried out on August 5.
