We are going to report them: Minister Reimberg warns judges and prosecutors

John Reimberg announced legal action against judicial officials who release detainees from the Security Block

The Minister of the Interior, John Reimberg, issued a new warning to judges and prosecutors who, according to him, are not complying with ordering pretrial detention for those arrested by the Security Bloc.

The statements were made on August 15, 2025, during a police operation in Guayas, one day after the recapture of alias “Yoker,” who had previously been released.

Reimberg reported that he has issued an internal order for the Ministry of the Interiorto take legal action against judges who release alleged dangerous criminals.

The official stated that these measures aim to stop what he describes as “misconduct” within the judicial system, which, in his opinion, puts public safety at risk.

“We're going to report them as the Ministry of the Interior, because they're not doing the right thing,” he emphasized, stressing that his legal team will support these complaints.

This is not the first time Reimberg has made public warnings; in June 2025, he had already announced that he would show the faces of judges and prosecutors who release dangerous defendants.

The minister keeps that the release of detainees undermines the work of the Security Bloc, which is made up of the Police and the Armed Forces to combat organized crime.

Reimberg's position has sparked debate in the country, since some sectors believe it could undermine judicial independence, while others support the measure as necessary for security.

The minister's warning marks a new chapter in the relationship between the Executive and the judicial system, opening the debate on the balance between public safety and the autonomy of justice in Ecuador.
