President Noboa presented a bill to recover protected areas

The President of the Republic, Daniel Noboa, sent his third urgent economic bill to the National Assembly, this time focused on the recovery of protected areas. This is the Organic Law for the Recovery of Protected Areas and Promotion of Local Development, proposed on June 14, 2024.

The initiative seeks to organize and reactivate natural areas affected by illegal economies and armed groups. Through this legal framework, the aim is to ensure efficient management with state presence, responsible private investment, and strict environmental regulation.

The bill will be processed by the Legislative Administration Council (CAL) and sent to the relevant committee. The regulation also opens the door to the development of activities such as sustainable tourism, scientific research, and environmental services.

The Secretariat of Communication reported that this model promotes sustainability and diversification of the local economy. The law will allow the creation of decent jobs, strengthen security, and return safe access to their natural heritage to Ecuadorians.

With a national vision, Noboa's administration proposes a structural change in the way protected areas are managed. This measure not only aims at economic development but also at a firm response to the presence of illicit actors in areas of high ecological value.
