Solanda Goyes, a member of the Judiciary Council, will face a political trial in the National Assembly. The Oversight Commission approved the process promoted by Fernando Jaramillo of Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN). The accusation alleges a presumed failure to fulfill duties by Goyes for not providing a quorum in key sessions to approve the regulation for the selection of constitutional judges.
Legislators from the ruling party and Pachakutik voted in favor, consolidating a solid majority in the commission. Meanwhile, representatives of correísmo abstained, claiming it could be a case of persecution, although they stated they do not defend her. The complaint asserts that Goyes failed to comply with articles of the Judiciary Council's internal regulations, which require voting and justification of absences, constituting a serious functional infraction.
This process sets a precedent within the new Assembly, where opposition to practices inherited from socialism seeks to restore institutional control. Correísmo's abstention reflects its weakening in the current legislative scenario.
