The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made official this Friday the decree ordering payment for agents of the Transportation Security Administration (in English, TSA) after officers were left to work without pay for weeks amid the partial government shutdown and the Democratic boycott of the Department of Security National.
For this reason, Americans have been affected by longer wait times at security checkpoints at major airports. The memorandum signed by Trump a few hours ago also states that officers will receive retroactive payment, considering that the partial government shutdown has been in effect since mid-February
.
“As the Democrat-induced shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continues to enter its sixth week, the U.S. air travel system has reached its breaking point,” reads the presidential memorandum addressed to DHS.

Trump avoids a crisis
"This is an unprecedented emergency situation. Currently, more than 60,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees, including approximately 50,000 transportation security officers who perform security functions at domestic airports, are not receiving their salaries due to the reckless decision of congressional Democrats to prioritize criminal illegal aliens over U.S. citizens and shut down DHS until their demand to ban federal immigration enforcement is met,” continues the
letter signed by Trump.
Since February, theruling party has tried to negotiate with the Democratic Party to reach an agreement and reopen most of the Department of Homeland Security. Last night, the U.S. Senate reached an agreement for the partial reopening of that department, but the House of Representatives rejected the
agreement.
Due to the partial government shutdown caused by Democrats, hundreds of TSA officers have resigned and others have resorted to extreme measures in order to survive financially. “In the first shutdown, we saw a 25% increase in desertion after the lapse of the first shutdown,” said TSA Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl during a news conference at Reagan National Airport on Tuesday
. Long queues at airports due to lack of funding for TSA.
