The Catholic Church in the United States is experiencing one of its greatest revivals in recent decades, after a record of 220,000 adult baptisms were recorded during Easter of 2026, a figure that represents a growth of 38% compared to last year and breaks with years of sustained decline in religious practice.
The data comes from research carried out by Hallow, which surveyed more than 140 American dioceses and confirmed a phenomenon that already surprises priests, bishops and religious analysts.
The number of adult baptisms skyrocketed and marks an all-time record
According to the report, the number of new adult baptisms went from: 90,157 in 2024, 160,000 in 2025, to approximately 220,000 in 2026
This is the highest level recorded in the entire 21st century and a complete reversal of the downward trend that affected the Church for two decades.
Between 2000 and 2020, adult converts had fallen from 173,674 to just 70,796 during the pandemic.
Bishops speak of a “spiritual revival” across the country The
bishop of the diocese of Venice, in Florida, where the number of baptized people rose 94% year-on-year, attributed the phenomenon to: “The work of the
Holy Spirit”.
He also argued that the expansion of Catholic online resources and the disappointment of many people with modern culture are driving a return to the faith.
Large cities show explosive increases in conversions Among the
country's main dioceses, the strongest increases occurred in: Los Angeles: +139%
Chicago: +52%
