During his visit to Ireland this weekend, Donald Trump dismissed the concerns of the doomsayers of artificial intelligence, stating that the predictions of these people "are not going to happen." The president also rejected regulating this industry.

Instead, Trump indicated that beating the Chinese regime in the AI race is the most important goal. "We are leading China in AI. We are the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins in AI wins everything," the president told reporters.

For the Republican magnate, the apocalyptic predictions about what AI can do that the left is making are exaggerated and hinder the United States from remaining the leader in cutting-edge technology. "And we can put up guardrails; we can do this and that. But I think there are a lot of negative voices raising this and they shouldn't be, and they are bringing up issues that are not going to happen," he considered.

This week, two security researchers from Anthropic, Joe Benton and Jacob Coxon, resigned from the company and issued a dramatic warning about the future of AI. They denounced that both Anthropic and OpenAI are acting irresponsibly and "playing with the cards of our lives."

In light of this media firestorm, the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, in a statement backed by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, called for the technology of AI to be slowed down.

"Given the rapid pace of AI capability development, I am concerned that in 6 to 12 months a swarm of this kind could take over the entire internet with a persistent botnet... and that the scale of the damage will continue to increase from there if AI becomes more powerful without the necessary limits," Amodei wrote in an article of his own published on Saturday.

David Sacks, former AI czar for Trump and current co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, accused these entrepreneurs of being part of a publicity stunt: "Stop pretending you need someone else's permission. Stop pretending that antitrust law needs to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that replaces accountability for the product."

In any case, ignoring the usual doomsayers, Trump has called AI "bigger than the internet" and highlighted its revolutionary potential, particularly in medicine and, above all, for Washington to stay ahead in the geopolitical race against China.
