In the lead-up to the legislative elections in November, President Donald Trump visited New York to headline a Nassau police academy event where he highlighted his success in security and crime fighting.

The president shared the new FBI security statistics that reflect a decrease in the number of violent crimes —homicide, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assaults— committed in 2025, contrasting his security policies with those of the Democratic opposition and praising his party's congressional candidates.

In his speech, Trump pointed out that Democrats embrace far-left policies. "Now we call them 'brutocrats' because their measures are insane. They promote defunding the police. Does that win votes in this chamber?" he exclaimed.

The Republican leader took credit for deploying the National Guard in several cities across the country and in Washington DC, emphasizing that residents thank him for restoring peace to the capital. He also took the opportunity to praise his tariff policy, tax cuts, and the spending law passed last year that provides tax benefits to uniformed personnel when they work overtime.

A winning strategy

Trump was accompanied by the new Attorney General of the country, Todd Blanche, and the FBI Director, Kash Patel, who warmed up the crowd before the president took the stage and spoke. The Republican candidate for governor of New York, Bruce Blakeman, thanked the presidential visit and emphasized that the debate on security has become the central issue of the gubernatorial race.

Republican strategist Matt Gorman analyzed that Trump's appearance strengthens Blakeman's candidacy and those of the challengers seeking to dethrone Democratic representatives in New York districts. Meanwhile, consultant Jesse Hunt stated that focusing on the decrease in crime during his visit to New York allows Trump to connect with voters from various social and political sectors.
