Donald Trump: 'The decision to occupy Gaza depends on Israel'

The U.S. President also said that he saw the video of the kidnapped Evyatar David and found it 'horrible'

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, reacted to the possibility that Israel might decide to move toward a full occupation of the Gaza Strip.

When asked whether he would support an Israeli reoccupation of the entire coastal enclave, Trump avoided taking a clear position and replied: "Well, I don't know exactly what the proposal is. I know that right now we're there, trying to feed the people."

Regarding the possibility of a prolonged occupation by Israel, the American president stated: "As for the rest, I really can't say. That's going to depend on Israel."

Trump highlighted American humanitarian efforts in the region, emphasizing that "The United States recently delivered 60 million dollars to provide food for the population of Gaza, which is clearly not in good condition."

He added that both Israel and several Arab countries will collaborate with Washington in distributing humanitarian aid and the allocated funds.

Trump's statements come a day after sources from the Prime Minister's Office suggested that Netanyahu had made the decision to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, including areas where it is believed that several of the hostages taken by Hamas since October 7, 2023, are being held.

The prime minister is expected to convene an expanded meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza and a possible agreement for the release of hostages.

According to that source, there is a "broad consensus" that any future agreement must include the release of all hostages.

Trump was also asked by the press about the video released this week by Hamas, which shows hostage Evyatar David visibly emaciated and forced to dig his own grave in an underground tunnel in Gaza. "Yes, I saw it," the president said. "I think it's horrible. I hope a lot of people see it, as hard as it is, because it's a dreadful thing."
