The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that a coffin containing what appears to be the remains of an Israeli hostage was transported out of the Gaza Strip by Israeli troops.
The body is being escorted by the police to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, where the identification process will take place, which could take up to two days.
Hamas has not provided the identity of the person whose remains were handed over, which has led to caution among Israeli authorities.
In recent months, the terrorist group has attempted to manipulate public opinion by handing over human remains whose authenticity has not always been confirmed, as part of its psychological warfare against Israel.
The IDF emphasized that only after scientific verification at Abu Kabir can it be confirmed whether these are indeed the remains of an Israeli hostage. If confirmed, the remains of seven hostages would still be in Hamas's hands inside the Gaza Strip, a painful reminder of the atrocities of October 7 and the ongoing suffering of the families who are still waiting for answers.
Israeli government sources highlighted that, beyond the humanitarian impact, these selective gestures by Hamas do not represent good faith, but rather attempts to buy time and gain international legitimacy. "These are not humanitarian acts, but rather cruel manipulation," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense stated.
Meanwhile, the IDF continues its operations aimed at dismantling Hamas's military capabilities and achieving the release of all hostages.
Israel remains committed to bringing every hostage home with dignity and respect, reaffirming that the fight against terrorism will not cease until that mission is fully accomplished.
