Israel announces a 'localized ceasefire' in Gaza to expand humanitarian aid

The army will accept ceasefires in combat to facilitate the arrival of food to the Strip

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced daily pauses in fire in specific areas of the Gaza Strip, aiming to facilitate the distribution of food to the civilian population.

These truces, which will extend from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., affect key areas: the coastal strip of al-Muwasi (in the central-south), Deir al-Balah (center), and Gaza City (north).

Although the official statement emphasizes that this is a "limited" ceasefire, the measure could, in practice, amount to a broad truce, covering nearly 25% of the Gazan territory, where the majority of the civilian population and Hamas terrorists are concentrated.

This means that, during those hours, Israel will not be able to attack the terrorist organization or its operatives if they take refuge in these areas.

The IDF indicated that it will remain in effect "until further notice", which could mean weeks or even months.

With this decision, Israel has expanded humanitarian corridors for international organizations, establishing "fire-free zones" in order to ensure the delivery of food and basic assistance.

Israel insists that the accusations of "induced famine" in Gaza are unfounded. However, the IDF itself acknowledged that food security in the enclave has reached a "dangerous point".

It is essential to remember that the chaos in food distribution is the responsibility of the United Nations.

With this initiative, Israel seeks to respond to international pressure while attempting to maintain the balance between its military objectives and assistance to the civilian population.
