Trump: 'Hamas is stealing money and food in Gaza.'
The president of the United States assured that the terrorist organization is behind the problems in aid distribution
Amid growing international pressure against Israel over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, United States President Donald Trump stated that "Hamas is stealing the food".
During a press conference at his golf resort in Scotland, accompanied by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump made it clear that, while he isn't fully convinced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's claim that "there is no famine" in Gaza, he doesn't share the narrative that places exclusive responsibility on Israel.
In fact, he directed his harshest criticism at the terrorist group Hamas, which he accused of systematically stealing humanitarian aid sent to the Strip.
"We've given a lot of money to Gaza for food and other things. Much of that money is stolen by Hamas, and much of the food is as well," stated the American president.
According to Trump, the scenes of real hunger in Gaza aren't fabricated, but the reason isn't the alleged lack of Israeli will, but rather the absolute control Hamas exercises over the territory and resources.
Trump also addressed the halt in negotiations to free the Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas. According to his explanation, the terrorist group has hardened its position and no longer even intends to move toward a temporary ceasefire. "They've changed completely. They don't want to release the hostages," he said.
The president detailed that, in the recent rounds of negotiation in Doha, Hamas representatives "weren't really willing to talk."
He also pointed to Iran's direct interference in those talks: "I think they got involved in this negotiation, giving signals and orders to Hamas. And that's not good."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who met with Trump in Scotland, maintained his anti-Israel stance and insisted that the United Kingdom must pressure Israel to allow more humanitarian aid. However, in Trump's presence, he had to acknowledge that "Hamas can't have any role in a future Palestinian government."
