The Secretary of Defense of the United States, Pete Hegseth, said that the US military is prepared to resume military operations against Iran in the event that negotiations for a ceasefire fail. His statements, made during a briefing on the situation with Tehran, reflect Washington's firm stance vis-a-vis the ambitions of

the Iranian regime.

“While you are trying to recover from devastated facilities, we are only getting stronger,” warned Hegseth, in a direct message to the Iranian leadership. The head of the Pentagon emphasized the clear American military superiority and issued a strong warning: “This is not

a fair fight.”

Following President Donald Trump's guidelines, Hegseth reiterated that the United States will not under any circumstances allow Iran to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. While stressing that Washington prefers a diplomatic solution—led by the vice president and the negotiating team—he made it clear that the military alternative is still on the

table.

“We prefer to do it the right way, through an agreement. But we can also do it the hard way,” he said. In that regard, he urged the Iranian regime to take prudent decisions, warning that a refusal could lead to a tightening of measures, including maritime blockades and attacks against key infrastructure such as energy

networks.

Along the same lines, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, stressed that the current temporary truce is a direct result of military pressure exerted by the United States, which has opened a window for diplomacy. However, he made it clear that U.S. forces remain ready to resume combat operations “at any time.”

For his part, the commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, explained that naval actions in the region include the active interception of vessels linked to Iran. He clarified, however, that these operations do not constitute a total blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy trade, but rather selective measures aimed at limiting logistical support to the Iranian regime

.

Washington's firm stance aligns with the shared concern of Israel and other nations in the region regarding the threat posed by a nuclear Iran. In this context, the message is clear: the international community, led by the United States, will not allow Tehran to continue to advance a program that puts global stability and security in the Middle East at risk
