Debanhi Escobar's precedent

In April 2022, the case of Debanhi Escobar shocked Nuevo León and the entire country. The young woman disappeared and, days later, her body was found in a motel cistern under circumstances that have not yet been clarified.

This case highlighted the lack of effectiveness of the authorities and the revictimization that families suffer in their search for justice.

Recently, Televisa, in collaboration with N+ Docs, announced the premiere of the documentary "#Todas. "Debanhi, a story of networks". Which addresses this homicide  and other similar cases in the state, seeking to highlight the violence and the impunity surrounding it.

Cadereyta Jiménez massacre: a tragedy that is not forgotten

A decade earlier, in May 2012, Nuevo León was the scene of one of the most atrocious massacres recorded in the country. On federal highway 40, near Cadereyta Jiménez, the mutilated bodies of 49 people were found.

The victims showed signs of torture and were abandoned in plastic bags, without heads, hands, or feet, which made their identification difficult.

Impunity and demand for justice

The constant in these cases is impunity. According to official data, in Mexico, more than 95% of homicides remain unsolved, reflecting a severe crisis in the justice system.

The families of the victims face not only the loss of their loved ones but also the indifference and, at times. The  incompetence of the authorities responsible for investigating and sanctioning these crimes.

The lack of concrete results in the investigations perpetuates a cycle of violence and distrust toward the institutions.

The response of civil society

In the face of governmental inaction, civil society has taken a leading role in the fight against violence.

Non-governmental organizations and victims' families have raised their voices. Organizing marches, protests, and awareness campaigns to demand justice and effective public policies that guarantee the safety of the citizens.
