A tragic accident occurred on the road leading to the tourist spot Cola de Caballo. In Santiago, Nuevo León, it left a toll of 12 people dead and several injured. The accident happened when a passenger transport van lost control and overturned on one of the road's sharp curves, an area known for its high risk.
Accident Details
According to the first reports from Nuevo León's Civil Protection, the accident vehicle was transporting a group of tourists who were heading to the famous Cola de Caballo waterfall, in the municipality of Santiago.
The driver, allegedly due to speeding or a mechanical failure, lost control of the vehicle on a curve, causing the van to overturn and fall into a ravine approximately 65 feet (20 meters) deep.
Witnesses of the accident alerted emergency services, who traveled to the site to carry out rescue operations. Upon arrival, they found that several people had died at the scene, while others were urgently transported to nearby hospitals in Monterrey and Santiago.
