They pointed out alleged use of Botox by Claudia Sheinbaum on social media.

Social media users noticed a change in Sheinbaum's appearance, who spends 100,000 pesos a month on her image

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has been the target of strong criticism on social media after reports emerged alleging that she supposedly underwent a cosmetic treatment with Botox.

Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, the topic has caused a intense debate on platforms like X. Thousands of users questioned the coherence between her public image and her personal decisions.

The main criticisms revolve around the supposed contradiction between the cosmetic procedure and the republican austerity that the federal government has so strongly promoted.

"You can't talk about taking care of the people's money and at the same time spend it on Botox and stylists for 100,000 pesos a month"

wrote a user.

It should be remembered that Sheinbaum had already been accused of spending large sums of money on her personal care. The expenditure includes an estimated monthly payment of 100,000 pesos on professional styling services.

The cost of Claudia's personal image strongly contrasts with the narrative of "austere government close to the people" that has been a central axis of the Morenista discourse.

Concern over priorities and questionable results

Besides the ideological inconsistency, internet users have expressed their annoyance over what they consider a poor choice of priorities. They argue that, amid multiple national crises, a leader should focus her time and resources on governing, not on cosmetic procedures.

"Mexico in flames and she's worried about looking younger", reads another of the viral comments.

To make matters worse, many users opined that the alleged treatment is not only out of place but also counterproductive. They claim that it has affected the leader's facial expression, reducing her naturalness and charisma. Some comparisons and memes even describe her as "unrecognizable" or "more stiff."

Esthetics before ethics?

Obviously, personal care shouldn't be a reason for ridicule in a modern society. The problem here lies in the dissonance between what is preached and what is practiced.

If a government demands sacrifices and moderation from the people, it is questionable that its leaders dedicate large amounts to their image while millions face hardship.

The controversy continues to grow and threatens to become another symbol of the gap between the official discourse and the reality of those who govern.
