Are they coming for AMLO? U.S. spy planes flew over the Palenque area
Since early February 2025, the United States increased spy flights over Mexico
For several weeks now, there has been speculation about the presence of United States spy planes flying over Mexico. This is part of their efforts in the fight against drug cartels.
However, in recent hours it has been spread on social media that a US spy plane is flying over southeastern states of the country and the Yucatán Peninsula.

Is the United States spying on AMLO?
In fact, some claim it was in Chiapas, in the area where the ranch of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador is located, without any official confirmation so far.
The independent platform LatAmMilMovements, which documents US aerial movements in Latin America, located N149CS spy planes over the Yucatán Peninsula. Also in the central part and the state of Sinaloa in Mexico.

Meanwhile, the site "Cambio22" states that the Lockheed P-3B Orion plane, registration N149CS, is flying over the region. This plane is part of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
It even states that it has been conducting reconnaissance over Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán since the beginning of this week.
Alex Piña wrote on March 5 in the Facebook group Aeropuerto MMMD.
"Tremendous visitor yesterday (04/03/25) the powerful Lockheed P-3B Orion (N149CS)," apparently referring to Mérida.

In mid-February, the version emerged that US drones were flying in Mexico spying on drug cartels.
President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed the version, but assured that there was nothing illegal, as they were unmanned drones flying "at the request of the Mexican Government," as a collaboration.
Are the planes spying on AMLO?
Now, with the recent version on social media of the spy plane in southeastern Mexico, users are spreading the version that it would be monitoring the ranch of former president López Obrador.
It is worth noting that there are rumors that AMLO has already left the country. Residents of Palenque claim that military personnel activity has decreased in the area.

Since 2006, it is believed that the DEA has had former president López Obrador in its sights for receiving money from cartels for his electoral campaign. The investigation was reportedly stopped by Obama, resumed by Trump, and held again by Biden.
US spy planes are technologically very advanced and can easily detect communication signals. If they were looking for AMLO, they would easily know if the former president is or isn't at his home.
We'll see what happens in the coming days.
