Adán Augusto López ignored the links between organized crime and the flagship project of the 4T

The Tren Maya, one of the most expensive and controversial projects of the 4T, is once again in the eye of the storm. An MCCI investigation revealed that "La Barredora," a criminal group led by Hernán Bermúdez Requena, carried out illicit business linked to the construction of the train. All this while federal authorities, headed by Adán Augusto López Hernández, chose to look the other way.

Bermúdez Requena, known for covering up huachicol operations in Dos Bocas, found in the Tren Maya a new opportunity to expand his criminal activities. The most serious aspect is that direct relatives of Bermúdez himself worked on the project, revealing infiltration of organized crime in Morena's mega-projects.

The investigation details that La Barredora obtained contracts and privileges to transport materials, provide services, and control strategic routes in areas near the project. These operations not only caused enormous profits, but also served to launder money from illicit activities such as fuel theft and extortion in Tabasco and Campeche.

Meanwhile, workers on the Tren Maya reported delays, threats, and illegal charges in regions controlled by this organization. However, authorities never acted to stop the criminal infiltration, making it clear that the project was an open field for corruption and crime.

Adán Augusto, accomplice by omission

During his tenure as governor, Adán Augusto López was aware of these complaints, but decided not to intervene. His silence directly benefited Bermúdez Requena, with whom he maintained political and personal ties, since he had already protected him as Secretary of Security in Tabasco despite his criminal record.

The case of the Tren Maya confirms that Morena was not only unable to stop organized crime, but actually integrated it into its own projects. Instead of being a symbol of development, the Tren Maya has become synonymous with corruption, environmental destruction, and the government's shady business dealings.

A train tainted by corruption and crime

The Tren Maya accumulates cost overruns, deforestation, and multimillion-dollar losses, and now faces accusations of having been taken over by criminal groups under Morena's complacent watch. Bermúdez Requena did not act alone: his relatives on the project facilitated contracts and used their influence to consolidate this looting scheme.

This new scandal demonstrates that, far from bringing progress to the southeast of Mexico, the Tren Maya has been a gold mine for corrupt individuals and criminals close to those in power. The silence of Adán Augusto makes him jointly responsible for this disaster, which confirms what many had already warned: that López Obrador's flagship project is a monument to impunity.
