Neighbors of the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood denounce 15 years of neglect with a themed party

City of Reynosa, February 17. In an unusual and desperate act of protest, the residents of the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood in Reynosa turned the 15th anniversary of their fight against sewage into a quinceañera party. The municipality, governed by MORENA, has ignored their complaints for years.

A protest with irony and denunciation
The event, marked by irony and criticism, exposed more than a decade of inaction. The administrations of Maki Esther Domínguez and her son, the current mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz, have ignored the residents' demands.
In the last nine and a half years, first with Maki Domínguez and now with Carlos Peña Ortiz, Reynosa has suffered a notable deterioration. Infrastructure problems, poor services, and a financial crisis have brought the city to the brink of collapse.

Repression and unjustified spending
The citizens face insecurity and extortion by the traffic and auxiliary police. They also accuse mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz of allocating municipal resources to personal propaganda instead of solving urgent issues like sanitation.
Hours before the event, tension grew when several residents reported the towing of their vehicles. They considered this action as a political repression act against those who criticize the municipal administration.
The people's outcry
The "quinceañera of sewage" was not just a symbolic protest but a call to action. The residents of the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood demand that both the municipal government and the Municipal Water and Sewerage Commission (Comapa) address this serious public health issue.
Engineer Luis Osvaldo Casas, one of the event's organizers, highlighted the unity and critical spirit of the residents. He noted that the community is willing to continue fighting for real changes that benefit all the inhabitants of Reynosa.
This protest demonstrates the creativity and resilience of the citizens. It also evidences their discontent with an administration that prioritizes self-promotion instead of addressing the community's problems.
