José Carlos González Herrera, known as El Guerrero Fénix, was shot dead in downtown Acapulco. Armed individuals intercepted his vehicle and opened fire without hesitation.
The crime occurred in broad daylight, in a city marked by unchecked violence. Once again, a citizen was killed for exercising his freedom of expression.

González Herrera was 39 years old and was the administrator of the page Fénix Opinión Ciudadana, with more than 140,000 followers on Facebook. His work consisted of denouncing abuses, corruption, and violent acts ignored by traditional media.
It wasn't the first time they tried to kill him. In June 2024 he was attacked after covering a fire. He was shot in both arms and accused "the mafia" of trying to silence him.
Since then, he lived under constant threat. But he never stopped publishing.
An uncomfortable voice silenced with bullets
For months, he denounced assaults and threats. He became an uncomfortable figure for many, but essential for those who didn't trust the official version.
The day of his murder he was publishing as usual. No one escorted him. No one protected him. His death was preventable, but it was ignored.
