José Neri "N" was arrested for his alleged responsibility in the homicide of María del Carmen "N," a 26-year-old young military woman. Both entered the Calens hotel in Cuautitlán, on the night of August 1, 2023; she was found dead hours later.
According to the investigations, the individual left the place during the early morning without alerting anyone. It was the hotel staff who found the body and notified the authorities;the victim no longer had vital signs.
After several months of investigation, the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office identified him as responsible. With an arrest warrant, he was detained and taken to the Cuautitlán prison, where a judge will determine his legal situation.
The State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office reported that both arrived together at the hotel on the night of July 31.
The uniform was no guarantee of protection or justice
The first forensic reports indicated that the cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation.
The victim did not receive any help. Her partner left her abandoned and did not notify anyone.
The omission of authorities contrasts with the speeches about protection for women; neither the state government nor the Sedena supported the family.
Delayed capture and ongoing judicial process
The case once again exposed the gap between official discourse and reality.
While a gender policy is presumed, justice remains partial.
Authorities insist on talking about equality, but the facts contradict every word.
Crimes accumulate without punishment, without institutional will or follow-up.
An uncomfortable crime for the official narrative
María del Carmen was not a victim of a stranger or a criminal network, but of her partner. The crime occurred in a private space, without witnesses, without timely intervention.
This fact dismantles the simplistic narrative of structural violence. There was no context of marginalization or organized crime, just a close relationship and institutional silence.
The family demands justice without concessions.
But in a state where the homicides of women are statistics, not cause, feminist discourses serve more for political legitimacy than for real protection.
The discourse of protection loses meaning when the facts contradict it.
It's not enough to talk about gender perspective if the results remain the same.
