Elderly woman defended her property in Chalco against invaders: there is one dead and the Prosecutor's Office already
An elderly woman repelled those who allegedly attempted to take over her property
An elderly woman was detained in Chalco, State of Mexico, after defending her property with a weapon from a group that allegedly attempted to invade her home. The incident occurred in the Ex Hacienda de Guadalupe housing unit, where a young man lost his life and two other people were injured.
The woman arrived accompanied by family members at the property that, according to reports, had been illegally occupied. When attempting to reclaim the property, they were attacked by the occupants, which led to the use of the firearm. The event was recorded on video, but without any context about the prior dispute.
A dispute over the property may have triggered the attack
According to testimonies, the land had already been claimed by the legitimate owners before the authorities. The occupants did not present titles or documents proving their legal possession. The situation escalated due to the lack of timely intervention by the relevant authorities.

Neighbors in the area claim that conflicts over invaded lands are becoming more frequent. Institutional neglect and the lack of firm actions have turned many families into victims of dispossession. This time, the response was a desperate defense in the face of the absence of the State.
The armed woman is reportedly a direct relative of the claimants of the property.

The authorities of the State of Mexico confirmed that there are already people detained for this incident. The Public Prosecutor's Office must determine if the woman acted in legitimate defense of her property. So far, no official stance has been issued regarding the legal situation of the occupants of the property.
Once again, a tragedy occurs in broad daylight, on the street, and without an immediate response.
Private property defense groups are asking that those who only tried to protect their home not be criminalized. It can't be allowed for an elderly person, with legitimate rights over a property, to end up prosecuted while the invaders remain unpunished.
The Mexican Prosecutor's Office has already opened an investigation
This case brings to the table an urgent issue: the defense of private property can't become a crime. When the State fails to protect it, it is the citizens who pay the consequences.
