More than 200 fires were faced in a single day, attributed to weather conditions and possible intentional acts

Compartir:

On a day marked by adverse weather conditions, more than 200 fires were reported in the state of Nuevo León.

Local authorities reported the arrest of 10 suspects for intentionally causing some of these fires.

Extreme weather conditions and rapid spread of fires

The entry of a dry cold front accompanied by strong winds created an environment conducive to the rapid spread of fires.

These extreme weather conditions hindered containment and extinguishing efforts by emergency services.

Authorities' response and arrests

The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, described the day as "atypical" due to the high number of fires reported.

During a press conference, he confirmed the arrest of 10 individuals suspected of starting some of these fires in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area.

García emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the need to act firmly against those responsible.

The mayor of García, Manuel Guerra Cavazos, also spoke about the events and thanked the public for their cooperation in identifying the alleged perpetrators.

"A thousand thanks, my beautiful people, for teaming up with the city", expressed Guerra Cavazos on his social media.

Impact on the community and preventive measures

The fires affected both natural areas and urbanized zones, causing significant material losses and endangering the health of residents.

Local authorities have urged the population to take extreme precautions and report any suspicious activity that could lead to fires.

Strengthening penalties against environmental crimes

In response to the increasing incidence of arson, the government of Nuevo León has implemented reforms to the state Penal Code to toughen penalties against those who commit environmental crimes.

Penalties for causing forest fires can reach up to 13 years in prison, depending on the severity of the damage caused.

These measures aim to deter potential offenders and protect the state's environment.

Civic collaboration and ongoing investigations

Authorities have highlighted the importance of civic collaboration in identifying and reporting suspicious activities.

A hotline for anonymous reports has been set up to prevent future incidents and ensure community safety.

Investigations continue to determine the responsibility of the detainees and clarify the causes of the remaining fires.

The recent wave of fires in Nuevo León highlights the need for preventive measures and stricter penalties to protect the environment and the safety of the population.

Collaboration between authorities and citizens is essential to face this challenge and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
