PAN in Chihuahua proposed legal abortion up to 6 weeks
By prioritizing the 'fetal heartbeat' over conception, PAN moves away from its historical defense of life
The National Action Party (PAN) has presented an initiative to allow legal abortion up to six weeks of gestation in Chihuahua. This proposal marks a concerning shift in the party's stance, which has historically defended life from conception.
The initiative establishes that abortion would be legal up to the sixth week, at which point, they argue, the fetal heartbeat is detected. While the document acknowledges that life begins at conception, it states that legal conditions do not allow legislation in that regard.
However, the same criterion would apply for the 6 weeks, since the Court has ruled the decriminalization of abortion up to 12 weeks. This way, the blue and white party yields ground, ignoring the moment when a new human being with a unique and unrepeatable genetic code is formed.

A right-wing that yields to ideological pressures
PAN's proposal seems to be an attempt to ingratiate itself with sectors that promote the decriminalization of abortion, instead of standing firm in its convictions.
This is because at no point does it propose prison sentences for women who might undergo an abortion. This attitude reflects a right-wing that yields to ideological pressures, abandoning its principles in the name of supposed modernity.
Users on social media pointed out that yielding to external pressures is a betrayal of those who have trusted PAN as a defender of life and family.

The need for consistency and firmness
In times when human life faces multiple threats, it is essential for political parties to maintain a consistent and firm stance in their defense. PAN must remember its roots and principles, and reject any initiative that compromises dignity and the right to life.
Human life is not negotiable nor subject to arbitrary deadlines. It is the responsibility of everyone, especially those in public office, to guarantee these essential rights.
