Lilly Téllez presented an initiative against narco-politicians
The PAN senator presented this initiative before the Senate floor yesterday.
Lilly Téllez, senator of the Republic presented a bill to impose sanctions on all politicians who have complicity with drug traffickers.
Whether they facilitate, protect, collaborate, provide information, resources, etc. to members of criminal groups, they could even be subjected to political trial.

The Senator from Acción Nacional proposes adding Article 123 Bis to the Federal Penal Code so that any politician can be sentenced from five to forty years if they commit treason against the country.
These sanctions will also include that any public servant who incurs in these sanctions be removed and permanently disqualified from holding public office in the country.

"People prosecuted or sentenced for this crime will be transferred to a maximum-security penitentiary, where special security measures will be applied both during preventive detention and in the execution of the sentence."
If accepted, it will have to go through committees before being considered by all senators in full and its possible approval.

Will this initiative have a future?
The initiative is presented in a difficult context that the country is experiencing where insecurity and violence grow every day, terrorizing the population.
Thanks to the failure of Morena's security strategy "Hugs, Not Bullets" where drug cartels have had more freedom to act with impunity in national territory.

This suggests the imminent complicity of Morena politicians with criminal groups and the initiative would be a watershed in the public life of Mexico.
An unprecedented precedent in the country, but it will undoubtedly be of great help to combat corruption and implement a more effective security strategy.
