The US reportedly canceled the visa of a narco-corrido group after they paid tribute to 'El Mencho'.

UdeG allowed the glorification of CJNG in its auditorium; the band might no longer work in the U.S

Los Alegres del Barranco lost their work and tourist visas in the United States. The measure was taken after the scandal at the Auditorio Telmex in Guadalajara, where they paid tribute to the leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).

During their performance, the group projected an image of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho". At the same time, they performed a corrido dedicated to the capo, which was interpreted as a clear apology for crime.

Direct consequences from the United States

Influencer Jacqueline Martínez, known as Chamonic, confirmed that the United States government canceled the musicians' visas. According to her publication, it was a direct response to the exaltation of criminals at a public event.

According to the publication, the act was considered as promotion of organized crime. Therefore, the visas of the group members from Sinaloa were canceled.

Armando Moreno Álvarez, José Pavel Moreno, José Carlos Moreno, and Cristóbal Reyes are the members of the band. From now on, they will not be able to perform in the United States, one of their main music markets.

UdeG, at the center of the controversy

The event took place at the Auditorio Telmex, owned by the University of Guadalajara (UdeG). The institution was heavily criticized for allowing the glorification of a criminal wanted by Mexican and U.S. authorities on its premises.

Rector Ricardo Villanueva acknowledged the seriousness of what happened and assumed institutional responsibility. In a statement, he declared: "What happened next weekend at the Auditorio Telmex shouldn't have happened and must not happen again."

Villanueva announced that a clause will be implemented in contracts to prevent expressions that incite violence or glorify crime. "If this means half the events leave, then let them leave," he stated.

Open investigation and social demands

The Jalisco Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation for possible apology for crime. It will analyze the responsibility of both the artists and the event organizers. The file was registered under number 21010/2025.

Institutional permissiveness has caused strong criticism. It is inadmissible that in a university venue, homage is paid to drug leaders. The University of Guadalajara has the moral and legal obligation to protect its space from crime and the culture of violence.

The Mexican society demands decisive actions. Statements and apologies are not enough: it is essential that UdeG establishes strict and permanent controls to prevent these events from happening again.
