It is expected that in the coming hours President Claudia Sheinbaum will announce the change along with the new appointment of who will take the place of Ramírez de la O.

The news comes amid the growing conflict over tariff issues that Mexico could face under Donald Trump's administration in the United States.

These issues haven't had effects yet, as the Mexican government was given a month to achieve favorable results and avoid the tariffs.

Yesterday Ramírez de la O attended the meeting that President Sheinbaum held with businesspeople at National Palace.

The meeting was for the purpose of Donald Trump's decision to postpone, once again, the application of tariffs on Mexican exports to the United States.

Despite the whirlwind of economic information since the beginning of the year, his public appearances were scarce and almost always in the background.

The finance sources consulted confirm that the replacement will be the current Undersecretary of Finance, Édgar Amador. Amador will be the one to assume the head of the Secretariat of Finance.

Edgar Amador assumed the Undersecretariat of Finance on October 1. Previously he served as an advisor to the Governor of the Bank of Mexico and, before that, was Secretary of Finance of Mexico City

Ramírez de la O, 76 years old, assumed the head of the Secretariat of Finance on August 3, 2021. At that time with President López Obrador, and he was ratified in his position by President Sheinbaum before the start of her government.

Mexico is experiencing a complex government transition that led to an economic contraction in the last quarter. The expectations for investment and economic growth for the year are bleak.

In its last quarterly report, the Bank of Mexicoreduced its growth forecast for 2025 to just 0.6%.
